What's in the Eartha Body Oil: A Full Ingredient Breakdown

Our body oil is one of the formulations I am most proud of at Eartha. Not because it was easy to get right, but because it required a deliberate refusal to take shortcuts.

When I was researching existing body oil formulations before developing our own, I kept noticing the same pattern. Many products that present themselves as oils are not entirely oil. They contain silicones, fillers, and stabilisers that create a light, fast-absorbing finish but contribute very little to actual skin nourishment. The slip is there. The skin benefit often is not.

At Eartha, every ingredient in the body oil is purposeful. There are no fillers, no silicones, and no endocrine-disrupting chemicals. We choose non-comedogenic, lightweight plant oils that are backed by research for their skin-supporting properties. Every drop has a reason to be there.

Here is what is in it and why.

Golden Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, which is part of what makes it so well suited to skin. Its molecular structure closely resembles the skin's own sebum, which means it absorbs readily without clogging pores and is suitable for most skin types including oily and acne-prone skin.

It is rich in vitamin E, B complex vitamins, chromium, copper, zinc, and silicon. It also acts as a natural humectant, drawing moisture to the surface of the skin and helping it stay there. Its antioxidant content supports the skin's defence against oxidative stress over time.

Jojoba is one of the most well-researched carrier oils available and forms the backbone of the Eartha body oil blend.

Moringa Oil

Moringa oil is derived from the seeds of the Moringa oleifera tree and has a nutritional profile that makes it genuinely distinctive among plant oils.

It is rich in cytokinins, including zeatin, which are naturally occurring growth factors that have been researched for their role in supporting cellular regeneration and slowing the visible signs of ageing. It is also high in oleic acid and other essential fatty acids that help protect the skin from environmental damage and support the skin's moisture retention.

Its antibacterial and antifungal properties make it particularly useful for soothing dry or irritated skin. We include moringa oil because it does more than moisturise. It actively supports the skin's ability to repair and maintain itself.

Safflower Oil

Safflower oil is exceptionally high in linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that plays an important role in maintaining the skin's barrier function. Skin that is deficient in linoleic acid tends to be drier and more permeable, losing moisture more quickly.

By reinforcing the skin's barrier, safflower oil helps reduce transepidermal water loss, meaning the skin holds onto hydration for longer. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help calm redness and sensitivity. It is lightweight, non-comedogenic, and absorbs cleanly without leaving residue.

Squalane

Squalane is a stabilised form of squalene, a compound that the skin naturally produces as part of its own sebum. As we age, squalene production declines, which contributes to dryness and reduced skin resilience.

Topical squalane is one of the most skin-compatible ingredients available. It is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and supports the moisture barrier without blocking pores. It also has antioxidant properties that help protect skin cells from free radical damage. The squalane we use is plant-derived.

Carrot Root Extract

Carrot root extract is rich in beta-carotene, vitamins A, C, E, and K, and a range of antioxidants. These compounds work together to support the skin's defence against environmental stressors including UV exposure and pollution, which are particularly relevant in Singapore's outdoor climate.

Regular use of antioxidant-rich ingredients supports overall skin health and contributes to a more even, luminous complexion over time. Carrot root extract is one of the reasons the Eartha body oil gives skin a natural glow rather than a flat finish.

Bisabolol

Bisabolol is a naturally occurring compound found in German chamomile essential oil and in the bark of the Brazilian candeia tree. The bisabolol in our body oil is derived from the candeia tree through steam distillation.

It has been used in cosmetics for centuries, valued for its anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant, and antimicrobial properties. Research has also associated it with reducing the appearance of fine lines, softening rough skin texture, and supporting recovery from sun-exposed skin. It is one of the gentlest active ingredients available and works particularly well for sensitive skin types.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

Tocopherol is the active form of vitamin E, derived naturally in our formulation. It is a deeply conditioning ingredient that hydrates and strengthens the skin's barrier, and its antioxidant properties help protect the skin from environmental damage.

It also serves a practical function within the formulation itself. As a natural antioxidant, tocopherol slows the oxidation of the oils in the blend, extending shelf life without the need for synthetic preservatives. It is doing two jobs simultaneously, which is exactly the kind of ingredient we look for.

Why this matters

Every ingredient above is present because it contributes something specific to the experience and efficacy of the oil. None of them are there to make the formula cheaper to produce, easier to stabilise, or more impressive on a marketing label.

This approach costs more. It limits the price point we can offer. But it is the only way to make a body oil that we are genuinely comfortable recommending for daily use on skin, over a long period of time.

If you have questions about any specific ingredient or why it was chosen over an alternative, we are always happy to answer directly.

Our body oils are available in both scented and fragrance-free versions.
