Most people who use a body oil use it one way. After the shower, on damp skin, done. That is a perfectly good way to use it, but it is only one of many.
The Eartha Summer Reverie Body Oil and 0. Body Oil are formulated with lightweight, non-comedogenic plant oils that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids. Because the formulation is clean, purposeful, and free of silicones and synthetic additives, the oil works well across a range of applications that a less carefully formulated product would not.
Here are nine ways to use it, from the familiar to the ones you probably have not tried yet.
1. On damp skin after showering
The most effective everyday use and the best starting point if you are new to body oil.
Apply directly to damp skin immediately after stepping out of the shower, before towelling dry. The oil seals in the moisture your skin has absorbed from the water, which means significantly better hydration than applying to completely dry skin. Use circular motions and start with a small amount, adding more as needed. Pay extra attention to areas that tend to be dry: elbows, knees, and heels.

2. Layered over body lotion
If you already use a body lotion and are not ready to replace it, body oil works well as a second layer on top.
Apply your lotion as usual, then follow with a few drops of body oil while the lotion is still slightly tacky. The oil creates an additional barrier that slows moisture evaporation, extends the hydrating effect of the lotion, and adds a natural luminosity to the skin. This combination works particularly well for very dry skin types.
3. Mixed directly into your lotion
A simpler variation of the above. Rather than applying in layers, mix a few drops of body oil into your usual amount of lotion in your palm before applying. The result is a richer, more nourishing texture without an extra step.
This is an easy way to test whether you enjoy using body oil before committing to using it alone. It also lets you adjust the ratio based on how your skin is feeling on any given day.
4. As a bath oil
A small amount of body oil added to bathwater turns an ordinary bath into something considerably more indulgent.
Add five to ten drops to the water after the bath has filled and swirl to distribute. The warm water opens the pores and helps the oil absorb more readily into the skin. Pat dry gently after rather than rubbing, to keep as much of the oil on the skin as possible.
This is a particularly effective use of the Summer Reverie Body Oil, as the essential oil blend disperses through the steam and creates an aromatherapeutic environment in the bathroom alongside the skin benefit.
5. As a massage oil
The Eartha body oil absorbs well but has enough slip to work as a massage oil for the body. Apply directly to the skin and use long, sweeping strokes across larger muscle groups or circular pressure on areas of tension.
The essential oils in Summer Reverie provide a complementary aromatherapeutic effect during massage. Patchouli is anti-inflammatory and grounding. Ylang ylang is calming. Sweet orange is uplifting. The combination makes for a genuinely restorative experience rather than just mechanical muscle work.
6. As a shave oil
Most conventional shave products contain synthetic fragrance and harsh surfactants that can leave the skin irritated, particularly on sensitive areas. A plant-based body oil is a cleaner, gentler alternative.
Apply a few drops to the skin before shaving. The oil provides enough slip for the razor to glide smoothly and reduces friction significantly. It also hydrates as you shave rather than stripping the skin. Use it as a post-shave treatment as well if the skin feels sensitive after.
7. As a cuticle oil
This is one of the less obvious uses and one of the more effective ones. The nourishing plant oils in the Eartha body oil soften and condition cuticles in the same way a dedicated cuticle oil would, without needing a separate product.
Apply a small drop to each cuticle and massage in gently. Regular use keeps cuticles soft and prevents the dryness and cracking that makes them look rough and feel uncomfortable. It also conditions the nail itself, which benefits from the same oil-based nourishment as the surrounding skin.
8. As a sunscreen remover
Sunscreen, particularly the mineral and water-resistant varieties, can be difficult to remove with water and basic cleansers alone. Oil cleansing is one of the most effective methods for breaking down sunscreen residue without stripping the skin.
Apply the body oil directly to dry skin and massage in circular motions. The plant oils bind to the sunscreen and lift it from the skin more effectively than water-based cleansers. Rinse off with a gentle cleanser and water after.
This works particularly well after a day at the beach or pool, where sunscreen has been reapplied multiple times and has had time to settle into the skin.
A note on quantity
Across all of these uses, the most common mistake is using too much. Body oil is concentrated and a little goes a long way. Start with less than you think you need. You can always add more, and an excess is harder to manage than a deficit.
The Summer Reverie Body Oil and the 0. Body Oil share the same carrier oil base. The difference is scent: Summer Reverie contains a pure essential oil blend, while 0. Body Oil is completely fragrance-free and suitable for those who are pregnant, nursing, or simply prefer no scent.
